American University Introduction

There are 4,000 universities in the United States, and nearly 30 of them are in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings, the most in the world. There are three entry points, suitable for students with different application time, financial and academic performance. For details, please see the following section on admission requirements for American universities, details: American university rankings .

A degree in an American university takes 4 years, and some majors take 6-8 years and require applicants to hold a degree or a master's degree before they can study, such as physical therapists, optometrists, radiotherapists, veterinarians, medicine, dentistry, law, etc. For students who are interested in studying these subjects, we generally recommend British or Australian universities.

As for studying and immigrating, since there are few quotas and too many applicants, you basically have zero chance. The details are as follows:

  1. First, by completing a degree in the United States, you will get an OPT work permit. All degrees basically have a one-year OPT work permit, and if you study STEM majors, you can have 3 years of OPT. Note: STEM majors generally refer to science and engineering, but psychology and business schools also have STEM majors.
  2. If your employer is willing to nominate you before completing OPT, or you marry an American, or you win a U.S. green card through the Green Card Lottery, you will have U.S. residency.
  3. If you are unable to arrange for U.S. residency before the end of your OPT, and your employer is willing to nominate you for an H1B work visa, and you are selected to receive an H1B work visa, you can continue to work in the U.S. as a non-citizen for another 3 years.
  4. If you do not find an employer willing to nominate you, or marry an American, or win a US green card in the Green Card Lottery before your H1B expires, you will need to return to your home country.

US University Tuition

Studying in an American university for 4 years can cost up to HK$500,000 per year! It is also very common to pay HK$200,000 per year for public universities in the United States, such as SUNY (State University of New York) and California State University (CSU) . If you consider tuition fees, see the article: Tuition fees for American universities . The total cost of these American universities is similar to the cost of studying abroad in other countries with a 3-year degree. It is the best choice for cost-effectiveness!

US University Rankings

The article " Ranking of US Universities " details the ranking standards and types of US universities. How do they differ from the QS World University Rankings? Among the 4,000 US universities, which ones are ranked nationally and which ones are ranked regionally? Where does the University of California, the most popular university among Hong Kong students, rank?

US University Admission Requirements

There are seven major areas of admission requirements for American universities: deadline, high school grades, secondary school electives, SAT or ACT , TOEFL or IELTS , admission essays, and teacher recommendations. Do you want to know how to get the most out of each area and apply to your favorite American university?

Since the admission requirements of American universities do not meet the needs of all high school students, this website also provides 3 major methods for applying to American universities, which are introduced as follows:

  • Through American community colleges : This article has links to community colleges in different states for university arrangements, requirements, and tuition savings. Generally speaking, American community colleges are an economic springboard. Students can study at a community college for 2 years with a tuition fee of 200,000 to 700,000, and then seamlessly connect to Year 3 and 4 of a university in the same state. Through American community colleges, you can connect to the top 100 universities in the United States, or even the University of California, which is ranked among the top in the world. It is truly the best choice for value for money.
  • Directly apply to American universities : If students have average and ideal high school grades and are expected to have a DSE score of Level 4 or above, they can apply to American universities starting from Form 6. Please see: Admission requirements for American universities .
  • International Freshman Program : The program is mainly aimed at the international market, with more flexible deadlines, secondary school electives, grades and English requirements, allowing you to enter the first year of an American university, and then take over the second year of the university... Students who want to complete DSE before enrolling and have a passing grade of Level 3 can understand the world's ranked universities: the easiest to apply for and the most ranked American universities

What subjects are worth considering in American universities?

After 4 years of studying in an American university, many majors require students to hold a degree before they can apply for a master's degree, such as medicine, law, physical therapy, etc. However, the following 9 subjects have the highest CP value, because some American universities can package professional licensed degrees and master's degrees together, and the overall time can be shorter than that of a Hong Kong degree (such as architecture, nutritionist) or the same as that of a Hong Kong degree (such as education, business, engineering, medical laboratory, computer, occupational therapy master, landscape design)
