How to become an architect in the UK?

The UK architect license requires RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architect ) approval, which takes 7 years. The steps are as follows:

  • Part 1: First, you need to complete a 3-4 year architecture degree such as BA, BArch, BSc or BEng approved by the Architects Registration Board (ARB). Usually, a Scottish university architecture degree takes 4 years.
  • Worked as a placement engineer in an architectural firm for 1 year
  • Part 2: 2-year MArch or PG Dip. If you are studying for an architecture degree at a British university , a MArch generally requires you to have a First or Second Hon degree and complete the above two parts.
  • 1 year placement in a European or British architect house
  • Part 3: An oral exam on the UK architect practice and legal examinations and your 2 years of construction-related work experience.
