Psychology careers in the UK
- There are 7 types of psychologists in the UK. 4 types (Health, Occupational, Sports, Forensic) require you to complete a degree and then study for a master's degree in psychology in the UK before you can study for a doctorate. The remaining 3 types (Clinical, Counselling, Educational) can directly study for a doctorate in 3 years through a degree. Therefore, it takes 6-7 years to become a HCPC (The Health and Care Professions Council) psychologist. Depending on the specialty, the time requirement may be similar to that in Hong Kong, but there are more types of psychologists in the UK, and there are registration and continuing education requirements. They are part of the public medical system.

Requirements for studying psychology
- IB 32-39; HKDSE 544 – 5*55
- Plus IELTS 6.0-6.5.
- In addition, many British foundations allow students whose academic performance does not meet the requirements to study for an extra year, with the score requirement as low as HKDSE 322 and IELTS 5.0.

UK University Rankings for Psychology
Master of Psychology, UK
A one-year master's degree in psychology in the UK costs HK$350,000 including tuition, board and lodging. Generally, a 2:1 undergraduate degree (Second Up) is required. It is easier than the master's degrees in psychology from HKU and CUHK. However, students need to obtain a British psychologist license before they can return to Hong Kong to register as a member of the Hong Kong Psychological Society.
