What is the IB curriculum?

The IBDP course lasts for 2 years and requires students to take one subject from each of the 6 major categories in the last 2 years of high school. The details are as follows.

Each subject has Higher Level or Standard Level. Universities generally require 3 Higher Level subjects, and students can choose up to 4 Higher Level subjects.

Whether it is Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL), the IB score for each of the 6 subjects is 7 points, totaling 42 points. If you have passed the following 6 subjects, students also need Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Activity, Service ( CAS), the total IB score is at most 3 points, so the full IB score is 45. Extended Essay

Complete an oral report and a 1,600-word essay, which needs to analyze the nature of knowledge and provide supporting evidence. The oral report format is determined by the school and graded by the school teacher, while the essay is graded by an external examiner designated by the IB unit.

Extended Essay Theory Of Knowledge (TOK)

Conduct independent research on one of the elective subjects and write a 4,000-word essay, supervised by a teacher on campus and graded by an external examiner designated by the IB unit.

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)

Students are required to carry out two activities related to creativity, activity or service in two years, each lasting at least three months. They only need to pass, and there is no strict formal grading. However, if the CAS is not passed, the entire IB course will not be passed.

IB Course Features

Many parents will ask if IB is good? In fact, you must first understand the characteristics of the IB course before deciding whether it is suitable for you:

  • From the above IB courses, we can know that IB attaches great importance to writing and students' ability to think and find answers actively . Writing topics often require students to think and research on their own, and express their ideas in English. Therefore, the first feature of the IB course is of course that students must be good at English, have curiosity to ask questions, and then have the motivation to find answers!
  • IB exams have two parts: Internal and External. Different subjects have different exam formats . Therefore, IB scores have different elements. DSE finalizes the scores in one exam. The scope spans 3 years of courses and requires students to have high data organization ability, self-assessment progress ability and memory. Understand DSE vs IB .
  • IB courses cover a wide range of subjects. Students need to be exposed to different IB subjects. Unlike A level , students can only study science or arts. IB students must take mathematics and two languages. The advantage of IB is that it allows students to have a better exposure to different subjects before deciding on their major in college. However, the disadvantage of IB courses is that they require a wide range of courses. It is not suitable for students who are only interested in science or arts . Benefits of IB Program

The advantage of the IB curriculum is of course that it is connected to universities. Generally speaking, universities in the United States and Canada are four years long, and in most cases IB students can get credits for one semester or even one academic year. This shows the recognition of the IB curriculum.

British universities recognize IB:

IB 38 points, admission to a UK university that requires A*, A, A at A level

IB 36 points, admission to a British university that requires A, A, A at A level

IB 34 points, admission to a British university that requires A, A, B at A level

IB 32 points, admission to a British university that requires A, B, B at A level

IB 30 points, admission to a British university with A level requirements of B,B,B

You can refer to IB scores to enter universities : Do you know what scores are required by universities popular with IB students?

We have had the opportunity to meet IB students and found that they rarely know what they want to major in college when they graduate from high school! This reflects that IB is a course that allows students to understand the world and themselves! This is very important because there are more than 4-5 careers to be successful in society now! Therefore, young people require space to try, but the traditional, exam-based education system may not have a mechanism to require students to explore themselves, understand reality, and integrate what they have learned. Students can only choose subjects according to scores, and choose the best subjects if they have the conditions. However, before admission, they can only rely on the university open day and listen to what others say. It is not easy to change majors in college. Therefore, the benefit of the IB course is not only that it is recognized by universities around the world, but also a good opportunity for students to better understand themselves and reality!
