This article is written by a representative from the UBC Admissions Office to clarify the four major misunderstandings about Canadian university applications. Please feel free to contact Maxway for more information .
1. My school offers different courses with different grading standards. How should I choose?
Canadian universities will adjust the score requirements based on the applicant's high school courses. For example, the success rate of IB application to UBC is 73%, but the acceptance rate of BC High School Diploma (Dogwood Diploma) is 50%. Therefore, although IB is difficult, the success rate of applying to Canadian universities is high, and applicants will receive 1 semester to 1 year of university credits.

2. I studied at a famous school in Hong Kong, but my grades were poor. My brother studied at a Band 2 school, but his grades were among the best. Will Canadian universities adjust their admission scores based on the ranking of Hong Kong secondary schools?
In fact, in the end, both Band 1 and Band 2 are determined by DSE results!
Band 1 students who do not have level 3 in school may need to consider
3. Although some Canadian universities require personal essays and video interviews, the reality is that Canadian universities only care about grades, and no one will look at your personal essays and video interviews?
Arida said that in the 1990s, you could get into UBC with a score of 70. In the 2000s, you had to get close to 90. 20 years later, there are too many students with scores of 90. Canadian universities have to rely on personal essays or video interviews to screen students! Therefore, personal essays or video interviews are really necessary, not just empty talk!
If you always think that Canadian universities are bad schools because they are not ranked by QS, and that they are so bad that there is no degree offer in Hong Kong and your students are rich, then don’t go! Canadian universities are not qualified to require any personal essay or video interview!
The following Canadian university departments can rival Harvard's 4% acceptance rate! They all require a personal essay or video interview. If you are interested, please contact Maxway and let's take the challenge.

4. Is it difficult to get promoted to UBC Year 2 / Year 3 from BC Colleges’ Canadian university transfer program? Does it depend on the UBC Drop Out rate?
Arida said that every year 25% of UBC's freshmen transfer from BC colleges . Regardless of whether UBC has students drop out or not, 25% of UBC's freshmen will come from BC colleges . Allowing the connection between college and university is a feature of BC's higher education and has nothing to do with dropping out!
Arida strongly recommends that degree applicants consider starting at BC colleges because it saves you money, and according to UBC data, students who are transferred from BC colleges to UBC are more likely to complete their degree within 4 years than those who are admitted from high school to UBC.
